Course Description Information

One unit of credit is awarded for the successful completion of a year-long course. One-half unit of credit is awarded for successful completion of a semester course. Credits are awarded at the completion of each semester. Semester 1 ends in December prior to Winter Break, and Semester 2 ends in May at the conclusion of the school year. Credit will not be awarded by quarter.

Required Courses

A required course is one that either the State Department of Education or the Lincoln County R-III School District requires for graduation. All required courses must be successfully completed prior to graduation.

Course Selection/Schedule Change Guidelines

The proper selection of courses is very important for all students and something that should be done with serious deliberation. Course descriptions can be found online, in a course book provided by the school counseling office, or on Infinite Campus as students are creating their Four-Year Academic Plan. It is strongly suggested that students confer with their parents, counselors, and other staff while considering future plans before making course selections.

Requesting a course change does not guarantee that a change will be made. Many factors must be considered, including overall class size and class size balances, before requests can be granted. Requests for schedule changes received after stated deadlines will not be permitted without administrative approval. This approval will only be considered within significant extenuating circumstances exist.

Grade Point Average

Current grade point average is the average of the course grades for all courses taken that semester only. Cumulative grade point average is the average of the semester grades for all courses taken during high school. Each class with a passing grade (any grade higher than an “F”) earns a student 0.5 credit per semester. A weighted grade point average (GPA) will be calculated for honors level coursework. Refer to the Honors Courses section of this website for a list of courses that qualify for Tier 2 and Tier 2 weighting.

Special Services

Lincoln County R-III School District offers a range of services to accommodate the special education needs of students in the district. Prior to the student receiving special education services, an individual comprehensive evaluation in the areas of intelligence, behavior, and related areas must be completed. Please contact the building’s Special Education Coordinators if you believe your child is in need of special education services.

Missouri Course Access Program and LAUNCH

The Lincoln County R-III School District will provide access to virtual (online) coursework for students. LAUNCH is the district’s online learning platform and preferred Missouri Course Access Program (MOCAP) vendor. Students and families who are interested in virtual coursework should contact their student’s school counselor to learn more about the program, student eligibility, and to discuss scheduling options.

Course Fees

We do not want a course fee to prevent any student from taking a course that they may enjoy. Scholarships are available for any Troy Buchanan High School coursework that has a fee attached to it. If you need assistance with a course fee, please contact your school counselor for assistance. This does not apply to our dual credit or online college classes. However, some of our dual credit colleges/universities will often work with families on tuition for those courses.
