Dr. Barchesky is serving in his 1st year as the Director of Bands and his 12th year of teaching at Troy Buchanan High School. At TBHS, he conducts the Symphonic Band, Ninth Grade Concert Band, Trojan Pride Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Jazz Band. Additionally, he assists at Troy South Middle School and Troy Middle School, where he works with the 7th and 8th grade bands. Dr. Barchesky also serves on numerous building and district-wide committees, where he advocates on behalf of his students and colleagues.
Currently in his 17th year of public school teaching, Dr. Barchesky has served as a guest clinician and adjudicator at the middle school and high school levels throughout Missouri. He has presented clinics and research to fellow music educators at The Midwest Clinic (2023) in Chicago, IL, the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference (2023, 2019, 2018, & 2015), and at professional development events in several schools. Dr. Barchesky has articles published in Teaching Music, the Journal of Band Research, and The Instrumentalist. Additionally, his dissertation is published by ProQuest, LLC.
Dr. Barchesky’s professional memberships include the National Association for Music Education, Missouri Music Educators Association, Missouri Bandmasters Association, and the Missouri State Teachers Association. In service to these organizations, he has served as the Band Vice President for the Northeast District of the Missouri Music Educators Association, a clarinet adjudicator the Missouri All-State Band and Northeast Missouri All District Band, and as the All-Collegiate Orchestra Coordinator. Dr. Barchesky has also been recognized in the Lincoln County R-3 School District as a Teacher of the Year Finalist (2022), recipient of the “Shoot for the Moon” Award for Excellence in Instruction, and as a Rising Star Employee.
Dr. Barchesky earned his Bachelor of Science in Music Education (summa cum laude), Master’s of Education in Music Education with a focus in wind conducting, and Educational Specialist in Mental Health Practices in Schools from the University of Missouri. He earned his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from William Woods University. Before joining the band staff at Troy, Dr. Barchesky taught for five years as the Assistant Director of Bands in the Sullivan School District in Sullivan, Missouri. He also served as a part-time band director in the Columbia Public Schools while he pursued his master's degree.
As a proud graduate of TBHS, Dr. Barchesky is grateful to serve the school and community in which he grew up. It is a privilege to work with such wonderful students and great colleagues.
